Your First Skating Experience - Ages 4+

Our Learn To Skate program is designed to teach beginner skaters in a way that’s progressive, structured, safe and fun! We follow the Ice Sports Industry (ISI) standards in order to advance skaters to the next level of achievement. Skill assessments are built into the sessions with an evaluation certificate and level-specific patches.

For the 2025-26 Season we will be offering 8 sessions of our Learn to Skate program, with both Tuesday and/or Thursday sessions. Each class will last 40 minutes in length.

The following levels are offered both days:
Tot 1&2 (Ages 4 & 5) - Yellow Sticker
Tot 3&4 (Ages 4 & 5) - Green Sticker
Pre-Alpha (Ages 6 & 7) - Black Sticker
Pre-Alpha (Ages 8-17) - Orange Sticker

Your registration fee also includes ISI Membership, Rental Skates and a Free Public Skate Punch Card Pass redeemable for 8 Public Skates.

*ELIGILBLE PARTICIPANTS MUST BE REGISTERED NO LATER THAN 12:00PM THE DAY THE SESSION BEGINS.

Each session is 8 weeks long and held once a week, either on Tuesday or Thursday evenings. You can choose to register for one session at a time or multiple sessions concurrently. Each class will last for 40 minutes. 

A completed registration and payment are required before stepping on the ice for the program. 

You may only attend classes on the day of the session you are registered for.

We do NOT offer make up classes for participant absences. 

*Late Registrations are NOT accepted

  1. Please arrive 15 minutes before the start of class to allow proper time to fit skates, check in, and do anything else necessary to be ready to step on the ice when it is time for class.
  2. For each class, please be sure to pick up the skater’s name tag from the Blue Learn to Skate Table.
  3. Rental Skates are provided and can be picked up at the Rental Skate Counter. (For those in figure skates, please select ONE size smaller than your shoe size.) (For those that have been approved previously for hockey skates, please select TWO sizes smaller than your shoe size.)
  4. If you need help tying your skates properly, please ask one of the workers on Staff or one of the Learn to Skate Coaches/Helpers.
  5. A brief meeting will be held at the beginning of each class.
    *For the first night of class Tot 1+2 (Ages 4 & 5) (yellow sticker) and
     Pre-Alpha (Ages 6 + 7) (black sticker) and Pre-Alpha (Ages 8 & Up) (orange sticker)

    classes will start off the ice to review the basics of skating and proper falling technique.
  6. After the meeting has finished, skaters will be called up to meet their teachers and head to the ice based on the sticker color on his/her name tag:
    Yellow Sticker – Tot 1 &2
    Green Sticker – Tot 3 & 4
    Black Sticker – Pre-Alpha (6 & 7)
    Orange Sticker – Pre-Alpha (8 & Up)
  7. Parents, brothers/sisters, cousins, family members etc., not enrolled in/eligible for the program, are NOT permitted on the ice during this time. Please find a seat in the bleachers away from the entrance door to the ice to allow the instructors to perform their job adequately and allow your skater to really focus.
  8. At the end of EACH class, please be sure to return the skater’s name tag to the table.

For the Learn To Skate Program, you will need the following :

- Pair of skates (rental skates included)
- Helmet (Required for ALL Skaters)
- Gloves or mittens
- Long pants
- Jacket
- High socks (thinner socks are better) *Do not wear two pairs of socks
- Clothes that permit easy movement
- Extra layers if you get cold easily
     - Suggestion: long pants, jackets, closed toe shoes and a blanket for parents as our ice rink is typically quite cold

*Tot 1 & 2 – Yellow Sticker: Ages 4 & 5 – Skaters will complete both Tot 1 & 2 in FIGURE SKATES.
-If there is an interest in hockey skates, the skater MUST PASS BOTH TOT 1 & TOT 2 BEFORE TRANSITIONING TO TOT 3 AND THEN, the skater must receive approval from BOTH the Tot 3 & 4 Coach as well as the Skating Director prior to transitioning into hockey skates.

*Tot 3 & 4 - Green Sticker: Ages 4 & 5 – Skaters can complete this level in figure skates or hockey skates; however, if there is an interest in hockey skates, the skater must receive approval from BOTH the Tot 3 & 4 Coach as well as the Skating Director before transitioning into hockey skates.

*Pre-Alpha (6 & 7) – Black Sticker: Ages 6 & 7 – Skaters will begin this level in FIGURE SKATES.
**ALL NEW SKATERS MUST START IN FIGURE SKATES.
-If the skater has recently completed Tot Levels 1-4 AND has already received Coach and Skating Director approval to transition to hockey skates, they can do so.
-A new skater interested in hockey skates, must first pass all the required skills in figure skates, before passing all of the same elements, AGAIN, in hockey skates.

*Pre-Alpha (8 & UP) – Orange Sticker: Ages 8 - 17 – Skaters will begin this level in FIGURE SKATES.
**ALL NEW SKATERS MUST START IN FIGURE SKATES.
-If the skater has recently completed Tot Levels 1-4 AND has already received Coach and Skating Director approval to transition to hockey skates, they can do so.
-A new skater interested in hockey skates, must first pass all the required skills in figure skates, before passing all of the same elements, AGAIN, in hockey skates.

*Success and length of time spent at each of these levels depends on the skater and their class attendance.

*As soon as the skater is performing the skills to a passing standard, the skater will be progressed to the next level.

*Upon passing Pre-Alpha, the skater will transition out of the Learn to Skate program and into either a hockey-specific program or a figure skating-specific program.
